Description

The Intelligent Environmental Solutions Foundry will host the “Wetland Conservation through Sustainable Livelihood Inspired by Tradition” workshop in Coe Hill from May 4-9, 2025.

Within the field of conservation, introduction and integration of sustainability is an interdisciplinary pursuit. It employs experts in public policy, health sectors, renewable energy, and innovators in all fields in order to develop a plan to move toward a more sustainable future. At the same time, looking into the past, we find that Indigenous communities were able to live amongst the land and extract resources without damaging ecosystems for centuries. It’s therefore reasonable to presume that the future of sustainability will be done through combining traditional land stewardship practices with emerging conservation research to yield profound insights.

The Wetland Conservation through Sustainable Livelihood Inspired by Tradition workshop brings together public policy makers, environmentalists, and First Nation representatives to explore the potential for innovative and community focused approach to sustainable practices. By harmonizing data driven insight and traditional Indigenous knowledge, this collaborative event aims to make sustainability plans to be easily implemented into small communities.

The Intelligent Environmental Solutions Foundry (IESF) is a collaborative venture between Land’escapes and the University of Guelph that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas. The research station is located at the Land’escapes property in Coe Hill, Ontario.
